Dr. Wikramanayake is the Precedent Partner of the Firm. He received his professional education at the Sri Lanka Law College and was admitted to Bar in 1981. He received LL.M degrees from the Vrije Universitiet, Brussels, Belgium and the University of Georgia, Athens, USA as well as a Master’s in Law and Diplomacy (MALD) from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, USA. Dr. Wikramanayake was awarded his Doctorate from the University of Colombo, in Sri Lanka for his work on Company Law.
Dr. Wikramanayake is the Chairman of the Company Law Advisory Commission, a Member of the Advisory Commission on Intellectual Property Law, and a Member of the National Trade Negotiation
Prior to founding the Firm, Dr. Wikramanayake held several senior positions in the public sector. He was the Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka, where he was instrumental in setting up the regulatory framework for the capital markets in Sri Lanka; Member of the Public Enterprises Reform Commission of Sri Lanka, where he participated in policy making for the privatization of several vital state-owned enterprises, including the LPG, telecommunications and plantations industries. Dr. Wikramanayake was also a Member of the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Board and a State Counsel with the Attorney General’s Department of Sri Lanka.
Dr. Wikramanayake is actively involved in corporate governance issues, having served on several committees appointed by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, to formulate Codes of Corporate Governance. In 2009, he was appointed to a four-member task force by the Monetary Board of Sri Lanka to advise Financial Institutions in Sri Lanka, on the use of facilities provided by the Central Bank to overcome the impact of the global financial crisis.
Dr. Wikramanayake has several publications to his credit, including “Company Law in Sri Lanka” which is an authoritative text on the Companies Act of 2007 and was a co-author of “Philanthropy and Law in South Asia”. Having varied interests, he is also the co-author of “Butterflies of Sri Lanka” and the author of “Wild Flowers of Sri Lanka”.
