Aruna Samarajewa joined the Firm in 1998 as an Associate and was appointed a Partner of the Firm with effect from 1st January 2006. Mr. Samarajewa handles civil and commercial litigation, commercial arbitrations, securities law, customs law, takeovers and mergers, banking law, Electronic Contracts, E-Commerce law and Internet law.
Mr. Samarajewa was an intern at the National Development Bank and completed his legal apprenticeship at the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka. He was admitted as an Attorney – at – Law in 1997.
He obtained his LL.M from Monash University in 2003, where he specialized in Digital Economy Law. Mr. Samarajewa is a specialist in Electronic Contracts, E-Commerce law and Internet Law, with his most recent publication being “A New Model Contract Law for E-Commerce in Sri Lanka”, in the Australian Journal of Asian Law. He is also a regular contributor on legal issues to the Lanka Monthly Digest.
Mr. Samarajewa handles the litigation and arbitration aspects of the Firm’s practice. Mr. Samarajewa also advises on matters relating to the Customs Ordinance and has represented clients such as John Keells Holdings, Shell Gas Lanka, Eagle Insurance, MAS Holdings, DHL Keells, Asian Paints and Citibank N.A. at customs inquiries. He specializes in issues relating to the applicability of duty and other levies for software and other forms of intellectual property.
He also advises on matters relating to Consumer Protection Laws and the Consumer Affairs Authority Act and represents the Firm’s clients, more notably, Ceylon Cold Stores, JK Marketing Services (Keells Supermarkets) and Shell Gas Lanka at inquiries before the Consumer Affairs Authority and the Magistrate’s Courts. |
