Mr. Arittha Wikramanayake was admitted to the
Bar in Sri Lanka in 1980 having completed his professional education
at the Sri Lanka Law College. Mr. Wikramanayake thereafter joined
the Attorney General’s Department of Sri Lanka as a State
Counsel in 1981. In 1993 he left the Attorney General’s Department
to take up an appointment as the Director General of the Securities
and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka. He held this position as Chief
Executive Officer of the SEC until December 1997 when he resigned
from public service to establish NITHYA PARTNERS. As the Director
General of the SEC, Mr. Wikramanayake also held positions as a member
of the Public Enterprises Reform Commission of Sri Lanka and the
Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Board.
Apart from his professional qualifications, Mr. Wikramanayake has
also obtained Masters degrees in Law from the Schools of Law, at
the Vrije Universitiet, Brussels, Belgium (1985) and the University
of Georgia, Athens, GA. USA (1987). In 1991 he obtained a degree
in Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy (MALD) from the Fletcher
School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, MA, USA.
Mr. Wikramanayake presently handles Corporate Law, Securities
Law and Trade Law aspects of the Firm. He has been involved in
many of the high profile mergers and acquisitions that have taken
place in the market in Sri Lanka in recent times.
Mr. Wikramanayake presently serves on several committees dealing
with corporate and securities law. These include committees for
formulating Codes on Corporate Governance established by the Institute
of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and the Securities and Exchange
Commission of Sri Lanka and committees on corporate law appointed
by the Government of Sri Lanka. Mr. Wikramanayake also serves
on the National Review Committee, which has been appointed by
the Ministry of Finance to review performance of State owned enterprises.
